ESET NOD32 Antivirus 2.70 build 39

Ever since this blog's launch, we've been recommending users to use Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise as their primary security software. But time has now come to change that. There is a new king of he hill; NOD32 from ESET.

First of all, let us justify our decision to recommend NOD32 over Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise (VSE):

1. Since the introduction of Mcafee 5000.194 scan engine, ActiveShield service may sometimes consume up to 45MB of physical memory, making it a resource hog. NOD32 on the other hand is very light on system resources and features faster scan times. NOD32 Resident scanner wont consume more than 20MB of RAM most of the time.

2. NOD32 gets access to new virus signature files faster than Mcafee. Its average threat response time has been hovering over the 2 hour mark for a long time (Source: CNET).

3. NOD32 features an out-of-this-world heuristics detection engine. This allows the scanner to stop viruses even before signature files are released.

How to:
Notes: (Follow exactly as mentioned or you will be stuck with 30 day trial)

- Install NOD32, Choose Custom install.

- During installation Push "Set update parameters later".

- Dont`t reboot when installation complete.

- Install NOD32 FiX v2.2.exe

- Don't restart PC.

- Go to the installation folder of NOD32, usually C:\Program Files\Eset, you will see nod32fix.reg (It's a registry entry for NOD32).

- Click nod32fix.reg. It will ask you whether you wanna add the entry, just click on yes then click on OK.

- Now Restart your PC.

- Now you have 40,000 years of free updates. Comon nobody lives that long.
Once NOD32 is installed and cracked (follow instructions exactly as mentioned in Rule's post or the crack wont work) , do not let NOD32 detect the nod32fix 2.2.exe or modded registry entry files. If the file is detected, NOD32 will revert to 30 day trial ! Smart eh?

To effectively hide the patch, Disable AMON (AMON is the NOD32 memory resident scanner which scans in background) immediately following the first reboot after installation + cracking.

Navigate to installation folder (Default : C:\Program files\ESET)and delete the file
nod32fix.reg.

Then navigate to the downloaded source (Program setup + Fix).
Zip the contents of the folder. Then RAR the zip file.

Delete the folder and the .zip file (not the RAR file you just created).

Now re-enable AMON.

You can move the RAR file to your backup or store or whatever and keep it for later use.
